A Story of Dedicated Structural Engineer
I am Sumit Shah from a remote District Dadeldhura. I have completed my Master’s in Structural Engineering (M.E.) from Anna University, India, which is one of the best university for engineering in South Asia. I received the scholarship from Studentenprojecten Nepal for my Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering, Nepal. This scholarship grant was very useful to buy educational materials like books, copies and instruments, which laid the foundation for my career in the field of engineer due to which I am able to achieve the present position. I am very much pleased with my unknown sponsor and SPN board members. In my observation, SPN have been supporting to the poor, disables, girls and dalit students’ of Nepal, which help them to bring in the mainstreaming of educational development.
I have done research project on “Comparative Study of Cold Formed Steel and Hot Rolled Steel Truss Element”. The use of steel is increasing day-by-day due to its high rigidity, stiffness, ductility and cost effectiveness, which is replacing slowly Reinforced Concrete Structures (RCC). My research project proved that steel structures are more suitable for high-rise buildings, bridges, transmission towers, and hydro-plants. I hope my research project work will contribute for the generating new knowledge in the field of structural engineering. In addition, I have also published two journal papers during the period of research under the title 1) Comparative Study of Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) and Steel Structure and 2) Comparative Study on Behavior of Hot Rolled Steel over Cold Formed Steel. I have a plan to do PhD in the steel structures from the reputed university to widen my knowledge in the same field. I have a dream to build structurally earthquake resilience structures for the safer and sustainable life for the coming generations. I will do my best to teach children as “education is right than the privilege”. I assure that I will try my best to keep the high head of my sponsor, and board members of Studentenprojecten Nepal and Student Help Nepal, who spent their precious time, energies and money to dig shinning road for my career.
